As the recession bites, should the unemployed get free bicycles, so they can get on it ?

Good points people, ones that I agree totally with,
I used to have 2 cars, times got hard so I started cycling to work, I had an expensive mountain bike just sitting there, no time, anyway I have ridden to work now over 3 years full time, thru winter and summer, is the best thing I ever did, 20 - 25 mins each way.
Am on my second mountain bike now.

No, not for that reason. As a bicyclist, I think free bicycles would be a great way to improve fitness and health, lower pollution and green house gas levels, minimize vehicular traffic, and be a heck of a lot of fun for a lot of people. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll bring it up at the next meeting of the Illuminati.
