In the lounge, she will get in a bit of a mood for about an hour, but i can assure you she will stop. I had the same problem with my cat and this worked a treat!
Cats do that to mark their territory or as a way of stretching. It's part of what they do and impossible to stop. Get her a scratching post or try those nail covers, Soft Paws.
It's actually a throw-back to their wild ancestors.
They have scent glands on their feet - doing that scratching action imprints their natural scent into the carpet - thus they consider it their territory !
Cats do this to sharpen their claws, if you look at their claws if you haven't cut them yet they would be nice and sharp! If this keeps happing you might want to declaw your cat.
Clip the claws. They shed the side pieces, if she's got full points on her claws that means she's got whole flakes coming off the sides (more interest in working them off on the rug) than if she's got a 3/4ths long claw with the sides firmly attached. Ours always do more clawing when they have sharp points on.
