I'm an atheist and have been for a few years now. I was raised as a Christian and in my teens I became agnostic and then atheist. Most of my family are conservative Christians, ranging from mildly conservative to very conservative. In addition to being an Atheist I'm also very liberal so when the topic of religion comes up, it tends to be me on one side of the debate and everyone else on the other. My question is how can I enter these discussions without causing a huge blowout? Mainly I try to avoid the subject but it isn't really possible to avoid it in every circumstance. I hate the tension it causes but I don't know of a way to have a peaceful debate without conceding the point and pretending that I accept their beliefs or arguments as true. This is something I will NOT do. I'm very opinionated and I will always stand by my beliefs. Well that's my story in a nutshell and if anyone could give me some real advice I would greatly appreciate it.
