Emphasis on the word DEPARTMENT cuz the US Naval department includes the Marine Corps (and perhaps the Coast Guard in wartime).
Therefore the US Navy has a sea, land (Marine Corps) and air (naval aviation) component notwithstanding that the Navy's air capability is inferior to that of the USAF obviously.
Also the Navy has probably the best Special Force in the US military - the Navy SEALS.
With manpower of about 330 000 Navy and 180 000 Marine Corps personnel, plus however many USCG personnel, it's a pretty big force under the US Dept of the Navy with a vast inventory, huge budget and an ability to fight on land, sea and air.
If the US Naval Dept was a military on its own, how would it rank/compare to the other [non-US] military forces of the world? For example, would the military might of just the US Naval Dept exceed that of the ENTIRE Russian military or the ENTIRE British military or the ENTIRE Chinese military?
