Art and design GCSE sketchbook help?

Ok, so for my GCSE in art I need to complete a sketchbook, but I'm confused by what is meant by make everything link, what to include and how to decorate it, is it for artist research or your own sketches? After reading other threads, they always mention linking things in, but how? what is the sketchbook for?

i'm currently in Year 11, My given theme is pop art, and i'm aiming for atleast a B for GCSE.
