i keep hearing that when you get older you start to realize the dangers of the military and forget about joining... Im planning to join after college (when im around 22) but im afraid that i wont want to join by that time.

You forget about joining when you wise up and realize the wars being fought are imperialist wars of aggression waged for political and economic interests. Such is the result of developing a comprehensive understanding of U.S. foreign policy and recent U.S. history

That all depends on you. You must first ask yourself this: WHY do you want to join the military? Is it that you think it is cool like what you see in movies or television? In that case you will decide against it the minute you actually try to do it, or you will just never get around to doing it. If you are interested in joining the military because you genuinely believe in serving your country and have a deep desire to join the ranks of those before you who have fought for the freedom of the nation, you will not forget. You will answer the call when you graduate college, and you will enter a much larger world.

You shouldn't be afraid about that. I wanted to join immensely after high school. Fortunately, my medical problems prevented any kind of military service. I'm a different person from a higher education. Unless you want to be a pawn, even officers are pawns, then join.

If there is an ROTC nearby, join it while you're still in school. That way you can see what you gotta do and decide ahead of time. Remember there's a war going on. If you're up for college, you're potential officer material. Think about what ya wanna do after school and bounce it off the military jobs offered. Then do a risk analysis of what is you cup of tea while things may be exploding nearby. You got time to feel ya way. Just be sure you know exactly what you might be getting yourself into. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS.
