[h=3]By CAROLINE PORTER[/h]OAK CREEK, Wis.—The alleged shooter in the killing of six people at a Sikh Temple was identified Monday as Wade Michael Page, a 40-year-old white male who served in the U.S. Army in the 1990s.

Police Chief John Edwards said Mr. Page, who was killed by police, acted alone in Sunday's attack, which began at around 10:25 a.m. The six people who were killed included five men ranging in age from 39 to 84 and one woman, Mr. Edwards said.
During a televised press conference, Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Teresa Carlson said investigators are looking into white-supremacist groups in connection with Mr. Page. Mr. Page had earlier been identified as a member of hate groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks such groups. Ms. Carlson declined to discuss Mr. Page's past contacts with law enforcement.
Mr. Page served at Fort Bragg, N.C., from 1992 to 1998, a law-enforcement official said. He was discharged from the Army in 1998 for misconduct, under a general discharge, two officials said. The circumstances behind the decision couldn't immediately be learned. Mr. Page was trained as an Army specialist in psychological operations, according to his service records.
Investigators believe the shooter used a 9mm semiautomatic pistol and that he carried extra ammunition in a military-style tactical belt, a law-enforcement official said. Three other people were injured in the shooting south of Milwaukee, including a police officer.
