Just finished a face to face interview in Fresno with a Major, I'm aiming for Infantry 4yrs, my recruiter is offering a $6000 bonus, I'm not in it for the money but would like to get whatever I'm entitled to. What about the $30,000 sign on bonus I keep hearing about? Can I negotiate this at MEPS???

Thanking you in advance,

Daniel

Your Recruiter can't offer you crap. The Dept of the Army does that and it is based on Army needs, you education level, your score, the length of your contract and sometimes how fast you ship. What has a $6,000 bonus today could have a $12,000 tomorrow, it could offer no bonus tomorrow or it maybe the same.

The only way to "negotiate" is to pick a job with a larger bonus or, ship sooner (not always the case), a longer contract. You won't be able to negotiate a higher bonus by holding out.

See if you can enlist infantry for 2 or 3 years. This way you can be in your Re-Enlistment window (half-way through your contract) and be able to sign for a new bonus.

Plus, once in, you are more valuable because the Army spent money training you and will want to keep you.

Esspecially if youre downrange, you can sign for more money that way. You might have to reclass to a high need MOS and get automatic promotion and up to 27,000 signining bonus.

Those mos' are military intelligence analyst, repairer, and patriot defense.

But do Infantry first. Everyone else is just a pog. The infantry makes you a very well rounded human being. You will improve as a person and it will help you in whatever you do down the line. Dont start out being a pog.
