Army Secret Clearance with recent job termination?

I'm looking at enlistment options for the US Army, but have a concern about a recent blemish on my record. Earlier this year, I was terminated from a part-time security job I held for 2.5 years while in college. In a nutshell, I was using my smartphone to browse internet hiring sites during slow periods at work; the boss found out about it and terminated me. Up until that point, I was considered one of the best employees and had never received any kind of formal reprimand... After graduation, I just came to resent the job and allowed it to lower my work-ethic until I was fired.

Aside from that recent employment issue, and 1 speeding ticket in 2006, I have excellent credit with $0 debt, and have since begun working in a supervisory position on a local movie production.

Now I'm looking at a few MOS' in the Army that require a Secret Security Clearance and the recruiter is telling me that there's no way I can get a clearance with a recent termination... the recruiter is telling me I should just omit it from my SF-86 because "they never actually contact past employers for a Secret Clearance".

Well I don't feel comfortable omitting anything from an application for a military security clearance... so my question is: will having a recent job termination prevent me from getting a Secret Clearance in the US Army?
