Medical Service Corp Officer.? My name is Paige.

This is a lot to read, but I am being as thorough as possible to get the most helpful of answers.

I am currently 18 years of age, I weigh 130 lbs and 5'6'. I am currently going to a community college, transferring to a university for 3 years, then going to pharmacy school for 4 years. During that 4 years, I plan on joining the Army through the ROTC program. I have never been in ROTC even throughout HS. My dad is not supportive at all. I grew up as "daddy's little girl," which I am now, currently regretting. Family is very important to me.

However, I am very strong willed and hard headed, though, I know when to respect others. I have an issue with people telling me that "I can't" do something. I am an adventurist, I like to follow my dreams, I want to make more of myself and I care for others. I have wanted to join the military for a while. The navy would be my first choice, though no navy rotc programs are offered at any in-state pharmacy schools. I plan on joining the Army Reserves because I would get the best of both worlds. Civilian and army life. Here are my questions:

1. Please describe, and be very specific, the Army ROTC program offered at colleges. I love having a family away from family. I love the idea of teamwork. I need to know more about PT, hair (I am growing it out now), did you enjoy it? I'd really like information from someone that's real, not someone trying to sell it to me. How often is uniform going to be worn?

2. I plan on being a medical service corp officer (pharmacy) in the Army Reserves. I realize that I won't be going to OBLC III, but a more condensed, 2 weeks version. Can someone please describe this to me? What I would need to bring, not bring, etc. Where will I more than likely be stationed at? I have heard maybe Texas, because they deal with medical.

3. I like the sound of the Army Reserves because it sounds more active-based than the guard, plus, I have more of a chance of traveling more, and seeing other places, because the Army Reserves are federal, not state-owned, which is what I want. Would I be able to switch over to active duty army if I was in the Army Reserves?

4. My dad is not supportive at all. I understand and have expected everything that has come out of his mouth. This is emotionally draining, though. I am 18, but that does not mean anything in my household. He just doesn't want to see me go overseas, which is also understandable. I have thought about this, though. I have thought about everything he has told me, which has not at all been good, about the military. To him, if I am not agreeing with him, and doing as he says, then I am not listening. I am taking into consideration everything, but I am very goal-oriented, independent. He tells me I can't do the Army, that I am not the "type." All of this, makes me wanting to do the Army all the more. However, I cannot say anything to convince him to give up on trying to convince me otherwise. Help?

I want to serve my country, and acheive something great. I don't know why but I have always liked the military. I am not afraid to get down and dirty. I know when to show respect to my peers, boss, leader, etc. I have thought about going overseas, and what may happen, there is never a guarantee of coming back. Yes, I am scared, but I try not to let fear govern my actions. If you could please help with these questions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Paige.
