I spent 4 years on active duty (2005-2009). After being honorably discharged in 2009 I was placed in the IRR for nearly 9 months until I decided that I wanted to join the Army Reserves. I have been in the reserves for about 10 months now and would like to go back to active duty (preferably with an 11x option 40 contract; my second choice would be 18x). I know that a lot of individuals are having difficulty obtaining these high-demand contracts (especially prior service), but I would like to know what I need to do in order to start this process and try my luck. I have tried contacting my reserve unit's career counselor with no luck, so I feel that it is time to take matters into my own hands and speak with an active duty recruiter. What do I need to do first? Request a conditional release form? Any advice from others who are in, or have previously been in my situation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
