I am in the Army Reserves. I rejoined after 18 years out. I went into a unit that I really want to stay with. Here is the problem. Group and MEPS are arguing about who is supposed to pay for my training. I have been in Limbo for the past 4 months as a result of this. I am not currently employed partly because I thought I was shipping to AIT. I don't know when I will ship out so cannot in good faith take a job that I know I will have to quit when I do ship.
I am a single parent with a masters degree in oriental medicine, and working on a second master's degree in public health. I have been living off of unemployment and student loans for the last 7 months I Enlisted beginning in January Enlistment went through end of February. I have been attached to my unit since the beginning of March
If I was on active duty and was being paid while this fiasco was being straightened out, I wouldn't care as much.
I am unsure If I can simply get a direct commission instead of job training. I couldn't take a commission directly as I was too old according to MEPS (29y.o. cutoff), but was told I could go Green-gold program.
My options as I see it are wait indefinitely for orders to straighten out, push for a commission, switch to another service such as N.G. or get out. I don't want to get out, but can't keep living as I currently am.
What do you think. Also what type of discharge will this entail since the Army is not fulfilling their contractual obligations by sending me to my school.
