Army PT Guide vs You Are Your Own Gym by Mark Lauren?

I'm comparing fitness programs that can bring me from couchpotato-readiness to lawenforcement/military-readiness. I've done weightlfiting in highschool but I haven't done that for 2 years, so I'd like to get back in the exercise habit before I finish undergrad.

Im considering a career in fed law enforcement or some aspect of the military, so I looked at the US Army Pocket Fitness Guide. It is mostly pushups, pull ups and sit ups of varying degrees combined with a walk-to-run/sprint progression (good for me because I've never run before).

The You Are Your Own Gym book looks good to me and makes sens. Plus the fact that the author's a special forces fitness trainer and "allegedly" has several testimonials from officers (plus the detail and common sense of the fitness tips given) makes me want to try this out, but it doesn't come with a running plan.

Which would be the better way to prepare for military/law enforcement; and if you choose YAYOG, what program, if any, would be good to add running/cardio to YAYOG?
