Lets say you have gone through college and don't want to go through ROTC and enlist in the army. 20 years later, you decide your done fighting and want to go do more desk work. You go through OCS and become an officer to get more money. Does this mean that even a sergeant major who did this would have to become only a 1st lt or wat ev? I meant if they put in tht much time, shouldnt they be able to skip some ranks? and can a sergeant major still do a lot of planning for missions from within the US or are all enlisted personnel always in the field?
