So im and Army reservist and my husband is an Active duty Marine. We both found out that we have orders for deployment starting in March. My unit mobilizes in March, and then we will be back in the united states in March a year later. His unit Goes to Afghanistan in March for 6 months.
My husbands deployments work 6 months on 6 months off though. So its going to be a year and a half before we see eachother after march because as soon as my deployment ends, he will be going on tour again.
My question, is that is there anyway to avoid something like this, it cant be healthy for families to be apart for so long. By no means am i trying to get out of deployment, im just trying to find if theres some sort of family protection for things like this. Its unfortunate, but i will do what i have to do with my head held high. I signed my contract knowing what i got into. Im not going to be a coward and get pregnant to get out of deployment.
What are my reasonable options
I guess it doesnt hurt to talk to my command.
as far as R&R (the leave during deployment) I dont really get a choice when i get to take it. i could get it within the first three months im there, or i could get it in the last couple months im there, its all a gamble lol. gotta love uncle sam
