I am really interested in joining the army. First of all, don't say anything about "Oh, you should join the Marines" or something really stupid and short. I will give 10 points and 5 stars to the person who answers best. So ok. What is Army Boot Camp Like? I know it is hard, but what can I do to mentally prepare myself for the army? How Long does boot camp last? Can you give me a step by step guide to the millitary. Thank You.

I went through OSUT (which is Basic and AIT schooling together) and it was 18 weeks long. I think Army Basic is around 9 weeks, then you would go to AIT to learn your MOS.

The first week is getting you processed, get your uniforms, do all kinds of paperwork, learn how to make your bed, doing other duties, learn how to fold and hang your clothes the military way... Then we took a physical test (had to do 13 push-ups) to even start Basic.

That's when all of the yelling and hurrying starts... lots of push-ups, lots of intimidation. They are trying to weed out the one who truly do not want to be there.

Getting up at 0430 every morning and start PT (P.E.), do all kinds of exercises to warm up, go on formation runs, eat breakfast around 0630, clean yourself and barrack up to start the day... Marching training, push-ups, learning commands, learning Rank, push-ups...

Weapons training, grenades training, landmines, Gas Chamber, Land Navigation, etc... push-ups, sit-ups, running (lots of all 3 of these. The Drill Sergeants are they to break you down and make you work as one unit. They teach you by doing things over and over and over so it becomes a natural act... they get in your face and look for ways to make you question yourself so they can fix that problem... it's all mind games... My Basic got easier with each of the 4 phases (but the push-ups got more and more creative)

I agree with HDH, Brandon, and John...
