Armor Etch is a cream normally used for glass etching cream, but it's also a truly handy repair tool for badly scratched glasses that have a UV or anti-glare coating.
David Gulbransen of the CoolTools blog had a pair of glasses that were serviceable, save for where the specialty coatings on the lenses has become so covered with micro-scuffs that the lenses were difficult to look through. Not wanting to replace the lenses, he took the advice of a friend:
... I was going to get new glasses — until a friend recommended Armour Etch, a glass etching cream you can get at art/craft stores like Michael's or Dick Blick. The way it removed the coating, leaving me with a perfectly unscratched lens, was phenomenal!
Take heed, though, that the magic trick only works on polycarbonate lenses—using the cream on actual glass lenses would leave you the proud owner of a pair of two pieces of frosted glass. If you try it, or have another scratch-removing solution, sound off in the comments below. Plastic Lens Revival with Armor Etch [CoolTools]
