My husband and I used to share all of our money, and he let me handle the bills because I'm just better with math and stuff. Well, now my husband is not having his check deposited into our account. He gets it cashed and keeps the money. So, at any given time, I have no idea how much money WE have ... I only know how much I have. I have to ask him for the money for the bills so I can deposit it, and he gives it to me, but he never tells me how much he has left. He always says, "I've got a little" or "Not much" or "I've got plenty". Then, a few days before he gets paid, he always ends up asking me for money for gas or something. I never ask him for money, but he's always asking for mine.
I've been trying to keep up with how much money he has AND how much I have so I can budget my money better, but its getting so hard. Is it really so awful or controlling or nagging for me to ask him how much money he has?
If he wants to handle the bills that's fine! He always said he felt more comfortable with me doing it. So if he wants control, he can have it! I just can't ever know how much of my money *I* can spend on things I need because he always ends up asking me for it later.
The issue here is that my spending is completely paralyzed because I don't know how money I'm going to end up having to give him. How can I know how much I spend on gas, food, personal items, etc, if I don't know how much he's going to need next week?
I don't want to be his mom, but I feel like I'm having to give him an allowance every week or something when he doesn't spend his money wisely!
