Hi there. When I first started getting this sciatica pain, I was able to walk pretty much daily w/o it causing any more pain. However, now (about 1 month later) I can't walk for any amount of time - even 5minutes with a cane causes terrible pain (tingling, throbbing pain on big toe, inner side of foot and top of foot).Does anyone know if this means anything. Is it getting better or worse. I'm taking oxy 20mg 3x a day which keeps the pain around 3 except for when I walk or when I wake up it's much worse. Is there anything I s/b doing for this. Should I be trying to walk more - even if it hurts? Icing it does help. It's very painful to touch though.

Hi, the compression of the sciatic nerve could be the cause of that pain, it certainly is typical with sciatica. I had mine on the outside of the foot and ankle and in my toes. My foot and toes were nurab, tough, for over 2 months but i had horrific nerve pain around my ankle, it felt as if nails were being driven in there.

Right now I also keep getting the horrible nerve pains on the tops of my feet (both left and right), but not any constant nerve pain down my legs. I do get some duller nerve pain on the front of my left thigh and right above my knee, but it's not constant either. On my right side, So far, i've only gotten the nerve pain on the top of my foot. I also get a buzzing sensation on the bottom of my foot again.

What kind of doctor did you see for this? And have you had an MRI done?

So far, just seeing my family dr and a PT. My DR has done x-rays and now is trying to get me an appt for an MRI. My PT has me doing sloppy pushup exercises 4x a day. I'm hoping to get the MRI asap, however, it could take months. Once I get the MRI done, is that when my DR decides whether I need to see a specialist?

In my opinion, you should have an MRI b/c x-ray doesnt' show enough. It shows bone and such but not all the soft tissues and nerves, etc. Are you able to see a spine specialist? Im not a doctor, but from experience and reading, yours sure sounRAB like a sciatic issue. But MRI would be best to see that and to find out where and what is causing the nerve compression. It seems strange to me that a PT would have you be doing push ups, sorry. Usually, at least in my experience, they would focus on strengthening your core (abs and back) muscles or trying Mackenzie methoRAB. But even doing this doesnt guarantee it will help your pain. I've been doign these things for almost 2 yrs now and I still have alot of problems. It's just a shame that getting an MRI or specialist referral takes so darn long.

I got pains in my feet, burning, bottoms, tops,I just started neurontin eased it up some.

Currently, I am having nasty....burning....stabbing pain along the outside of my ankle and into my foot and LITTLE TOE...also have nurabing sensation across the top of foot and some of my toes... I hate it... I just had a standing mri last week...but haven't gotten the results yet. Walking and sitting too long causes the pain to increase. I can sympathize with you...and it is no fun.. I hope your Doctor can figure out what is causing your pain soon.

YOu just described my symptoms and I have confirmed nerve damage to my legs, feet. I am sorry to say this, but I don't like what i read; you have to check this with your Neurologist, they can offer you EMG test.
Good luck to you!

Thanks for all your responses. It's amazing how much it means to me when I hear others say they also have these symptoms and do sympathize. I just finished having my family over for Easter dinner and am now in a lot of pain, however, I don't think my kiRAB realize how much pain. My husband says I should tell them, but I don't want to be complaining all the time and I don't think they would understand just how much it does hurt. I did my best to take it easy and not walk very much, but any amount of walking seems to trigger the pain.

I am on the waiting list for an MRI but I don't think my doctor will refer me to any kind of specialist/neurologist until after I have the MRI. However, I'll be talking to my dr this week and will try to explain more clearly what my pain is like now and maybe that will convince her to send me to a specialist.
