Aren't there 2 major reasons as to why Lincoln gets a free pass for basically "suspending" the constitution?

1: he gets credit for freeing the slaves. It was pretty much a political move to keep Europe from getting involved, but bad intent or not, he was the only president to do it.

2: he was assassinated. Lincoln wasn't very popular in his time (even in the North) until the war was over. Assassinations tend to make people either forget or romanticize past failures.

So thats basically why I think Lincoln gets a free pass for the few unconstitutional things he did. Do you agree? Why or why not.
