Since God is the one who gave us freewill then the so called 10 commandments were commandments at all but just recommendations based on Truth. It is man who takes what God recommends and makes it into laws not God. You see He knows how he made us and this universe and therefore guides those who out of love for Him humble the time created and therefore illusory self identity. Without His guides your ignorance will simply cause you much suffering.
