In war, the victor not only benefits from according himself a respectful place in history, but he also gains by rewriting the history of the defeated. Besides Thanksgiving and the Trail of Tears, what does the average American know about the Native American? What was their language, customs? What did THEY call themselves?
As a person of African descent, I believe that the curriculum should not relegate Native American to a paragraph in a textbook.
If the school system opted to promote awareness about the history of the Native American, do you think it would be attacked or regarded as reverse-racism as in the case of Black History Month?
