Are you an Indie cinema fan or a multiplex lover?

Hey!

I was having a random convo with freinRAB and we were discussing our preferences on cinemas.

Most of my freinRAB preferred the chains 'Odeon, Vue etc' but I am a lover of my local Harbour Lights picturehouse! It is just a more attractive building seems more welcoming, the staff seem more passionate, and the auditoriums are smaller
Just wondered which you preferred? and why?

I decided thought that in London I have no preference, as they all show a broad selection of films!

Multiplex. I wish there was one in my town as they show all the good films.

We only have a tiddly two screen doss hole of a independent cinema that has no air conditioning. You have to pay by cash too. They have not heard of debit carRAB and give you old fashioned tickets circa 1909. It also shows more rubbishy kiRAB shows than adult films. Its going to take me ages to see Miss Potter as I can't drive to Ashford.

My favourite cinema is the Arts Picturehouse in Cambridge for the same reasons you like Harbour Lights. Also they show films you often don't get in the big cinemas, but also show mainstream films. The building itself is lovely for having a drink and something to eat and the auditoriums are more comfortable. Finally, and this will sound utterly snobby (errr - because it is), but the audiences behave so much better - no chomping of popcorn through most of the film or people chatting.

Multiplex...

i live in a town with a little cinema that is currently showing something released in abiut 2001. They are that far behind!

They also don't tend to show films on a Saturday because they have some stage musical production.

I like to see the big blockbusters when they are just that- big!

I would love to support my local cinema if only they showed the good films.

Multiplexes are fine if you want to see the latest blockbusters on really big screens with a bucket of popcorn the size of a dustbin. There's really nowhere else to go if you want the full-on Dolby surround eye-popping experience of some sci-fi spectacular.

But I used to really like the little arthouse cinemas in London, like the Scala (as it was back in the 1980s) and the Everyman. The atmosphere was more intimate and friendly and the surroundings were much more suitable to watch the slow, ponderous European cinema of directors like Andrei Tarkovsky or Eric Rohmer.

I love both - Cinema is Cinema!

I like the multiplex for its large screens, comfy chairs, blockbuster movies, buckets of popcorn and family-friendly, slightly garish atmosphere, etc.

I like the local indie for its small intimate atmosphere, selection of smaller arthouse flicks, skilled projectionists, etc.
