Are we facing corporate (Comcast, Verizon and Google) takeover of the Internet ?

I read a notice that FCC Commissioners Michael Copps and Mignon Clyburn are going to be at a school in our area (Minneapolis) for a public hearing on the future of the internet. I do plan on going but I am wondering what to expect to hear that Comcast, Verizon and Google want to do. This event is sponsored by and co-hosted by Free Press, Main Street Project and the Center for Media.
Are we really facing corporate takeover of the Internet ?
