Of course we are animals. the answer to the origin of intelligence and consciousness has yet to be resolved.
 
We are defiantly animals--what, have you never encountered a 16 year old? That spark of divine in all of us has created intelligence--not to say animals of the lower realm don’t have some of that too.

We are animals, but whether or not intelligence has evolved is quite debatable. Some argue that intelligence is Learned. Others propose that its inherited... I believe that it is a combination of both.
