human beings? If It took a hundred years and millions of people protesting, not to mention deaths, to pass the civil rights act in the united states, I really wonder if we are advancing socially.

If it takes so long to change culture and traditions then are we really advancing as the human race?

Science and technology is advancing at break-neck speed.

Culturally and socially we haven't changed hardly any since the times the most ancient texts were written. OK we abolished slavery to a degree, but think about blood diamonds, think about sweatshops and how the modern world relies on immigrant labour to bolster it's economy, think about the sex trade. Have we really abolished slavery, or just moved the problem somewhere else.

I believe we have advanced socially, politically and ethically over the past 6,000 or so years but only by a very tiny, almost immeasurably small amount.

So while science and technology builds on the inventions of the past, culturally and socially we are doomed to keep repeating the mistakes of history as we arrogantly refuse to learn from them.
