Marine phytoplankton has both EPA/DHA in small amounts when compared to fish oils, however it appears that because it is also loaded with almost every nutrient man needs including enzymes and antioxidants, the amount of omega 3 is better utilized by the body. It is also in the form the body requires (phospholipid) so small amounts provide huge benefits. Flax oil has ALA which the body must first convert to the phospholipid form - this can be as low as 2%. Marine algae is grown in secure bioreactors to ensure an uncontaminated product, it may seem expensive if you compare it with just an oil....which it is not...all sea life directly or indirectly live off it, it is the super food of the ocean!
