Am I going to be disappointed if I buy a Specialized Stumpjumper or Hardrock, or a Trek 3-Series instead of a lower-end Cannondale such as a Trail 5? I've ridden Cannondale for the last twenty years, but keep seeing really cheap Trek and Specialized mountain bikes.
This bike will be used almost exclusively on gravel roads in New Mexico at medium altitudes (5K+ feet). I'm 6'3" and weigh 220. I am not a daredevil, I don't beat the bike or myself. An average day's ride is probably only twenty or twenty-five miles in 3+ hours. I don't need or really want a high-end bike. I just want a light, fast bike that will call it quits-for-the-day long after I have.
