Are these good lists of fish for a 40 gallon tank?

Ok, my mom is planning on getting a 40 gallon tank for me on christmas, now im deciding what list of fish i want because i cant decide, so just tell me that there compatible or not.

List one:

3 Discus
2 German Ram
6 Cardinal Tetra
6 Rummy Nose Tetra
3 Ottos

List two:

4 Female bettas
4 Platy
4 Guppy
3 Molly
2 Swordtail
3 Ottos

List three:

6 Green Tiger Barbs
3 Boesamani Rainbows
3 Praecox Rainbows
3 Ottos
2 Blue Paradise Gourami

List one is not good because rams and discus can be hard to keep alive.
I would either list two or three. Both would be good. List three is better if you are a beginner because there is less fish.

List 1, no...

Discus should be kept 5 - 6 minimum, and Ottos while often recommended are not good discus companions. They almost always eventually start feeding on the discus like remoras on sharks, once they figure out that discus slime is better than algae. You'd be fine with a Ram & apisto tank, but you need 75 gal min for 5 - 6 discus.

2 and 3 would be fine, but you could probably stock quite a bit more if you wanted.
