Are there Ford and Chevy equivalents to the Honda Fit?

Hatch back with high mileage, low cost. How do they compare. Which should I buy? I will drive it 40,000 miles a year, mostly highway. I am inclined to buy Honda, is that a mistake?
 
Chevy - no.
Ford - In a few months, they are rolling out the Ford Fiesta, which will compete with the Fit.
The Fit is a good choice.

If you are driving that much, it might be worth springing for the Prius.
You will still get 45mpg on the highway. I averaged 47mpg on the highway in mine.
