Are there any spam accounts/bots on LinkedIn?

I'm no internet expert myself, and I've asked a question I half-way expect to be answered as, "What you've found is a spam trap! Ruuun!"

I'm not familiar with LinkedIn, but I can assure you: Yes, it has spam accounts. It's also possible that spammers are using bots to find email addresses through the page, even if LinkedIn has managed to keep spammers from making accounts directly on their service.
 
I posted a need for a part time job on Craigslist, only posting my skills and availability, but no private info. I got a few emails, some are obviously spam so I'm glad with what I did.. but I did receive one that looked legit. Only link he provided me with was his LinkedIn account.

I know "of" the site but have never actually used it.
He has over 500 connections.. that seems like a lot to me but what do I know.. HR industry he mentioned.. just wondering, if there is any kind of spam on that site?
