are there any recent or upcoming sci-fi films that don't use CGI?

you would think that after so many sci-fi and fantasy films have been derided as looking like glorified video games, that at least one director would go back to using the old-school special effects that were used in the much beloved 80s classics like Empire Strikes Back, Wrath of Khan, E.T., and Aliens.

Almost everyone i've mentioned this to agrees that they should go back to using traditional forms of special effects more often and they have stated that they admire the old-fashioned workmanship that was put into the models and costumes back then.

Are there any new movies that use pre-1990s forms of special effects...With all the retro-nostalgia these days, i'd be shocked if there wasn't...theres gotta be a CGI-backlash coming soon.

I agree with your sentiments BTW

Look at a movie like John Carpenter's The Thing. No CGI obviously, the movie came out in 1981, and the special effects are incredible.
