...his own backyard? I don't understand why the producers can not build a simple means of transportation which is easily repaired by a mechanically inclined person.
 
Because there are a million things involved in safety and anti pollution devices, etc. I remember when I was a little kid my father had a fiat 500. It broke down every mile but in the boot he had a bag of spare parts. He fixed it right on the side of the road. I miss those old days...
 
they build them like that simply so ''they'' get the job to fix them.....but i fix my own....

The safety systems in the moderns cars of 2008 not only weigh them down, but they make the wiring complex.

Like the users above said, cars of the eighties and early ninety's are a good compromise of creature comforts, like how they mostly all have power locks and windows, with simple mechanics.

The easiest to repair would be the 1988-91 Toyota Corolla,
Ford Taurus 1986-91
Most 1988-95 trucks with their large engine bays that give you room to work.

Anyone else know others offhand?
