My friend was just charged with statutory rape by a non consenting parent. My friend is 18 and his girlfriend is 17. The age difference between them is very small so I was wondering would this lead to less severe punishments and if so by how much or what punishments would he be facing? Or, are there no leniency laws in California and so the 18 year old will still be given full charges?
