Everyplace I go they want to put my car on a "diagnostic machine" and charge me $ 150 for it. They claim that they can best dianose the problem. RThen they fix something that is not the problem only to brimg it back ti " fix" the mreal problem . A small job can cost upwards of $500. Example. My 1992 van broke a serpentine belt- simple huh. NO!!! They put on a belt that was too big. When i pointed it out they said that is the one in the book. The van threw th belt again so they Claimed that my power steering pump was leaking and that caused the belt to come off. they replaced the pump and guess what the belt came off again. They claimed i gave then the wrong engine size and they put on the correct size belt. When I asked aboyut the pump they said i needed it any way and that did cause the belt to come off. What should have cost about $ 50 bucks cost me $600. $ 100 for the belt- $150 for the pump and 350 for labor. I just want a mechanic who won't rip me off?

you get bad mechanics all over the place, not just in north carolina. we have bad mechanics here in pa. too, thats why i usually try to do my work myself. sounds like that mechanic you had was just guess work, if they dont know what they are doing, then they better get out.

I feel the same way, Jimbo! Seems the only reason most big shops sprung for the costly diagnostics machine was to bloat their image and self-importance! They still replace everything that could possibly ever be a/the problem, every time you drop by their shop!! Call up the Better Business Bureau and find the shop in your area that has the least number of bad reports. And while yer at it, place a report on the shop that jerked you around. blatant chat: I'm a carolina boy myself, originally, and at least you can drive to Gastonia for a bbq sandwich and the best milkshake in the world, from Tony's!!!!!!

i you paid this by credit card no problem. you can dispute tis.. now if you paid by cash or check you have to file a civil complaint.... it was not your job to give the size of theengine the mechanic must determine this.. also your power stearing was working before you went in.. your only recorse is to file a civil clain for all parts and labor..... in the future do your own repair.. example how ot replace that belt is on the web and its simple ok.
