are there actually any free LEGAL media to download ?

I happen to care TOO MUCH about pirated software including movies, tv series, songs, programs , everything. I'm just wondering, something like the documentary about Kevin Mitnick (that famous hacker), the documentary is called "Freedom Downtime" something like that, is it legally sold on DVD's, does it have copyright licences and stuff ?? Yes? No? Maybe? well that brings me to my next question which is : is there actually any movies, songs, etc which are normally free, as in you can download it over the internet without guilt ????
