resistant to change? I mean primarily? They didn't make enough effort to listen to the market and adapt to it?

No, their problems are tied directly to A: unions and paying people for no work, B; Government meddling, such as politicians telling them how to make cars. and C: unfair trade practices of foreign manufacturers and the governments that implement them.

yes and no, there are many other factors to consider. but instead of lowering prices or cutting costs like any other business in america the ego to say you NEED to give us money or else america will fall is unforgivable. let them fall others will come in their place, thats what has always happened and what should happen.

They can't compete with other auto manufacturers in building economical cars. Now no one wants to buy the gas guzzling SUVs that gave them a niche.

This problem has been around for over 30 years. There are several components resisting the change including an inflexible union, a management that cannot lead an evolution to economical vehicles, and a public that excuses all that and buys "american" until they can no longer afford to do so.
