Are the caps on plastic water bottles recyclable?

i was wondering because i was taking some recyclables to a recycle place and they said that all the caps had to be removed. i wasn't sure if that's because they're not recyclable or just the rule of the company? so please let me know if they're recyclable or not. thanks!
 
Well I think that they can be recycled, but it takes too much time and money for the company to be able to recycle them.
