I have heard one person intimate this and wondered what you all felt on the subject- here is my view- please contradict me or criticise and more so- give me your true opinion with an extra bit of detail- are you British or not:This is not intended as any insult, assault or similar on the British people- just a view (at present):
I was just wondering what you estimate the cause to be that the British are ' purportedly' a snivelling, whining spineless race? In the 80's I had what could be called backbone and I stood up to mostly everything including authority but eventually authority found its way to break my spirit- by illegal use of force and bullying of the judicial system. we are not allowed to call police Liars- merely 'mistaken', we are not allowed to do much at all - we are repressed and slightly oppressed (not as much as in the 80's).
Don't you think that Maggies rule oppressed us all to hell and we lost our desire to fight what we could not by legal means?
. It's not the people to blame so much as the Government- and as for being British- how many now actually have roots in this country- I'll wager its only slightly above half.
If radical muslims protest in violent disorder the Police seem to be there to protect them not to nick them yet when anti radical muslim protesters appear the Police seem to want to arrest as many as possible- to the point of seemingly inciting the violence themselves - do you not think that our backbone has been removed for us? I have said many times to people that I expect civil war within the next few decades and I still hold with my judgement because of people that will ridicule the nation.
I accept that we are soft (on the whole- us in the UK) but really don't know the answers for everyone, yet have an inclination avarice has a lot to do with it and liberalism: When gates for Homosexuality, Porn, All night drinking, further gambling etc were unlocked- i.e. the rigidness of censorship was lost- we also lost strong values and so had less to care about. When American litigation took hold over here in the late eighties - there were droves jumping on the band wagon and with the HRA being promoted in the late 90's there was even more of the softening going on. I have a feeling that avarice- for less censorship and more freedom. the wage increases allowing more people to live at a reclined pace - there has to be socio economic reasons why we have turned the way we have- not just the breaking of the Great British Spirit- sorry for the last email- I was feeling animosity toward government because I remember once when I would take the kicking off the coppers and still be full of hatred - now days I have a different mentality yet still respect that my spirit was broken in the 80's (getting it back- is not as easy as it sounds without a cause to fight for- which is one reason I'm on this degree- I see better causes than bucking authority these days).
Liberalism may be good for some that have been oppressed and need freedoms such as the gay community but to allow further gambling, more alcohol consumption etc- is this really what Britain needed- is this part of what has made us soft? Could it be that religion is being dissolved around us and ethics/morals are being lost- which means we don't 'care' as much? Can we have the spirit to fight if we don't care?
WHAT are your opinions- do you really think we are soft? Do you think the British still have a backbone? Do you have an opinion on why this country seems to be getting softer?
