Are Suffolk County, NY courts stricter with speeding tickets?

I am 20 years old and is attending school at Stony Brook University. I have had a ticket before but my lawyer got it dismissed. Just yesterday I was caught speeding on my way to the university. I was pulled over in Suffolk County (Southern State Parkway). I was going about 77mph (speed limit is 55), I know this I am way over the speed limit and I am not saying that it is okay, but people usually go 65-70 despite the speed limit around that area.

I've contacted my lawyer and asked him to represent me in court, but I'm wondering if the the courts in Suffolk county is more strict and is my chances of beating the ticket slim? My lawyer said that chances of winning the case is only 75-80%.

Thanks.

I believe your lawyer's assessment is maybe a little optimistic, but they might have a great defense strategy planned.

Even considering that "people usually go 65-70 despite the speed limit" you were still noticeably faster then usual. Depending on your lawyer's strategy and skill, you might still get off completely. You might get reduced charges (maybe 15 over instead of 22 over ... fewer points and lower fine).

Worst case: You get found guilty of speeding 22 over the limit. Not great, but not the end of the world!
