It seems to me that straight guys seem to be teased about being 'queer', 'fruity' or 'gay' whenever they do something the least bit feminine. It doesn't happen to me that often, but I know guys are made insecure by the cruel bullying about them being gay, even though they're not. One of my friends said his father would NOT let him get his ears pierced because his father said 'you'll look like a f@ggot' in them.'
In the American society, it's okay for women to wear jeans, sweats, and other 'butch' looking clothes, without being teased about being gay or manly. When a guy wears women's clothes, it's seen as gay or girly. I really like salt-water sandals and leggings, but they are looked upon as feminine, even though they're not.
Here are some pics of what I had in mind:

Uggs were once a unisex boot, but were made girly when women wore it. Luckily they're now an almost dead trend. (at least, where I live)
I wont wear skirts, because they look like flowers/roses turned upside down(which looks too girly), and I won't wear high heels because they make women feel taller, and as a tall guy, that really isn't necessary.
Girl friends (girls who are friends) also seem to get to get very close to each other, but many guys seem to want to have distance to avoid being gay. Some of my close family/friends love getting hugs from me, but others look at me like I'm crazy for even thinking of hugging them. "no homo" and "bromance" are two recently invented slang terms that have an air of male homophobia to them. I've never heard of "sismance".
As a straight guy, it's not right that I have to feel scared of being teased for wearing leggings or saltwater sandals , but straight girls can go out with 'butch' clothes without having to give it much thought.
