Are snails dangerous to my fish tank?

I have a 10 gallon tank with 4 fish. A while ago, I noticed two small snails swimming around. I thought they were cute, so I just left them. Today, I already lost the count. I took out like 20 of them, but now I can count up to 40 in the tank. If just leave them there, will it cause harm to my fish? I read about a fish that eats snails. What's its name and can I buy it at petsmart?
