Are Shimano PD-M505 pedals Mountain bike pedals?

I bought a bike from a friend, a giant ocr2 and it is a road bike. Upon buying it it came with the pd-m505 pedals and after some research it appears that they are mountain bike pedals. Can anyone help close this case? and if this is the case should i invest in new pedals? Thanks to all who actually help!
 
yes they are beginner clipless pedals designed for mtn bike use. If I were you I would just use them on the road bike, who cares? Unless of course you are a pro rider or very very good, and demand the best equipment for the type of riding you do
 
They are mountain bike pedals but a lot of people use them because they are SPD compatible that use the recessed shoes. Regular road bike shoes have the exposed clips and very stiff soles that are almost imposable to walk in.
