The reason I ask is that both Presidents Bush, and Presidents Carter and Clinton, seem to have some deference afforded to them that is distinctly lacking in British politics. Political sniping here is never ending, even after someone leaves office. Thatcher-Bashing is a national passtime (and one I quite enjoy), as many find it currently the in thing to blame all the world's problems on Tony Blair. But someone like Bill Clinton is respected around the world, as is Jimmy Carter, his frequent mediation services in times of crisis are often seen as a positive step in other countries.

No, how it is publicized may vary, there is never a consensus on an ex president. America is much more personality oriented. We will hate Bush for decades though, like Hoover.

LOL, Our ex-presidents still get plenty of bashing, Carter and Clinton bashing is a favorite pastime of republicans and the democrats will be on Bush for another twenty years. I guess it's a national thing. You bash Thatcher and Blair, both are respected fondly in America, we bash Clinton and Carter, both of which are respected more abroad than here.

By the nearly total response which Bush has gotten and has even been called the worst president in the whole history of The States, you can tell that certain president are by far held in high esteem. As well, suffered Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, although Clinton known as Teflon Bill is liked for his natural charisma. Bush was booed as he came out of the Capitol building as was Cheney, for their total mishandling of the terms they shared, and chaos they've left this country in. Bush, I believe will never survive his dislike by the people for as long as he lives. While John Kennedy will always be revered in a fantastical kind of way, despite his errors and infidelities for representing being a "prince" of Camelot, which was exactly what the people of the country needed when he stepped into term. Obama represents Magic and Hope and Change to a much wounded country after Bush, and also by the fact that he has had the populace, of different races elect him as the FIRST African American Premier of the U.S. Much is expected of him and people having left so devastated in many ways, morally as well, or say, especially look up to him as children do to a personage of nearly supernatural powers. I believe there is much integrity in him, however he can not be Merlin the magician, and the populace must realize that THEY must lend a BIG HAND in what DOINGS will change what has been undone by the former regime. The people of a so called "free" country often fail to remember all they must ALSO do and in which participate to keep up their country's integrity...therefore, when things begin to fail, it seems customary to blame the Chief of Staff for all the ills. Oliver Wendell Holmes expressed that the loss of power of any people of a free company resulted when the populace gave in trust all the power to government. Much is in the people's hands. But people can very often behave as children passing responsibility to their keepers.
