same thing? I've read that the philosopher's stone was made up of carmot, a purified form of prime matter, but also made up of Quintessence. I always thought quintessence had all 4 qualities (wetness, dryness, hotness, and coldness) in equal amounts, just as the stone did, but that prime matter was the complete absence of any qualities. I know for a fact that you need prime matter to make the stone, but i thought the prime matter was turned into quintessence. They both are perfectly pure substances, yet the stone seems to have more of the qualities of quintessence. So is the stone made up of carmot or quintessence or are they the same thing.

This is all hypothetical of course seeing as alchemy and aristotlean thought have both been replaced with modern chemistry and physics.
