Are Palm likely to produce 'official' patch for SDHC cards?

Hearing that SDHC cards are now becoming available and affordable, I was ecstatic but then they snatched my joy away by revealing that the new card format will NOT be backwards compatible! (Shades of Bill Gates!)

So my question, eventually, is does anyone think that Palm will liase with the SDCA (Secure Digital Card Assoc) and get/develope a update/download to allow Palm (especially the TX! :D) to read the SDHC cards?

Yours very hopefully

Good post!

Well first they'll have to address the 1GB "limit" on SD Cards period. I'd like to thank you for posting this, as I immediately had concerns my new Nikon D80 digicam wouldn't take them either! Turns out Nikon are "ahead of the curve," and indeed it will.

Also bear in mind that with 4GB of information, whether that be pics, movies, text files or whatever - I would think it would tend to "overload" whatever program you were trying to manage them with on the handheld. TealDoc does have a limit of how many files it can "oversee;" other programs like AcidImage would I believe tend to get bogged down, as your handheld's processor would be working overtime as well.

The other side issue raised by your excellent question, would be the card readers themselves - apparently if you've got a nifty "16 in 1" card reader that's FAT32 based -- that will need replacing as well. Rather annoying as I just plonked down for a new Belkin card reader that might already be outdated (I'll check that too).

Thanks for the post - again, to address your specific question - I wouldn't count on it, sadly - because there are probably other related "limits" involved with the TX, T3 or other handhelds handling the data management from a card that large.

Oddly enough I actually had a Memory Corp 4GB PRO 150x card in my previous TX (until the TX got stolen!) which I used, successfully to hold ALL of the 'Plus' maps for TomTom Navigator 5 European Maps and still had room for 35+ track for PocketTunes player with 1.5GB to spare! :D

Just think with a working 8GB card I could have got Europe/North America maps and still had room for some kicking tune
