Well my science fair is basically on candy chromatography.
My problem is : Which dye has the greatest Rf value?
Procedure summary:
What i basically do is dissolve the coating of the skittles and spotting that solution onto a paper chromatography strip. Then i dip the very edge to salt solution and watch the salt solution climb up the strip. Then it should show the different colored dyes used to make that candy coating. Which ever colored dye is the farthest is basically the one with the highest Rf value.
But then thing is that idk what the independent, dependent or controlled variable is. I am guessing that the independent variable is the candy coating and the dependent is the distance the different dyes from each coating travels and the controlled variable is the salt solution? Is that right? LOL thanks for the help! I understand what each variable is, its just hard for me to define them.
