The network is not encrypted but my understanding is that all skype correspondences are fully encrypted.
Everything I've looked at has said that skype is very safe and the only people seeing anything on it are me and the person I'm chatting with.
If this all goes out the window if I'm using my university network that should really be made more clear.....
