I never went near a chat room again after being harassed by hundreds of older men on AOL when I was 14.
Being a bit older and wiser now, and hoping to obtain a scholarship to attend graduate college in the UK, I spent a week or so attempting to chat to genuinely interesting British people. I never mentioned that I was American or any specific details. In some ways, they were more polite than I expected, but it always ended up with some disgusting perverted request or fantasy. It also seemed like the nasty people were much much nastier than most nasty Americans.
Is this just the general nature of ALL chat rooms now? Or, are the Brits a bit more devious? Or, am I just more accustomed to American sickos and know how to spot their motives better?
