I was originally interested in purchasing a 50cc scooter to commute to college everyday when the weather is nice, but after discovering how pricey they can get (especially for a decent brand), I've decided I wasn't willing to pay that much for a seasonal mode of transportation.
Instead, I am interested in finding an actual moped similar to those first made in Europe then later worldwide in the 1960s-1980s. I am not looking for a pedal bicycle with a motor just added on, but an actual gas powered moped. Some brands I have found, vintage and new are Indian, Velosolex, and Tomos.
I do not want anything big and bulky, or larger than 50cc. I am looking for a "newer" (not made in 1974, but 1970s style) moped for under $500-$600.
Are there any other companies who make the older style mopeds for use in the United States today?
